Capitol rally promises 3,000 students
Education may not have taken the biggest hit in Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's budget, but advocates plan to continue their PR assault on the Capitol.

Today, education officials have organized a noon rally on the South steps of the Capitol to protest cuts to schools.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell has announced he will speak at the rally. So will Assembly Speaker Karen Bass.

The governor met criticism outside the Capitol as well
Hundreds of flip-flop-wearing high school students turned the south side of the Capitol into an MTV-like special Thursday as they protested Schwarzenegger's proposed education budget.

The governor restored $1.8 billion to schools on Wednesday, but advocates said it wasn't enough because the state remains 46th in per-pupil funding in the nation. Earlier in the day, Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell said the governor's education budget provides just $200 million more than what schools received overall last year, not enough to cover growing expenses and salaries.

Budget protesters surround Capitol
SACRAMENTO — Students protested Thursday on one side of the Capitol against $3 billion in public school funding cuts, while demonstrators on the other side attacked broader, deeper slashes in health and human services programs.

The rallies came the day after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed ways to deal with a state budget deficit that has grown to $17.2 billion, due to a "spending problem."

The importance of this poll [Poll finds economy is Bay Area's top worry; Transportation, housing round out top three concerns] can be summed up by the following excerpt:

Given the mortgage crisis, the flood of foreclosures and soaring fuel prices, it is not surprising that the economy was rated the region's top problem, said Steve Levy, director of the Center for Continuing Study of the California Economy in Palo Alto.

"This (poll) says what's been on people's minds," he said, "and they've been inundated with stories about the economy, about the mortgage crisis and about foreclosures."

It's YouTube vs Primetime Ads in '08 San Francisco Proposition Battle

SF, CA – The Proposition commercials seem to start earlier and earlier every election cycle. With two months before the June 3rd ballot, this year's first lob comes from Lennar Corporation – out with a commercial promoting Prop G, which would give waterfront land on Candlestick Point to the Miami-based developer to build 10,000 condominiums in exchange for $1, with no binding guarantees of ANY affordable housing.

Lennar has already spent over $700,000 on high-paid political operatives and what a Lennar spokesperson characterized as "a dream team of political experts.” Now the "dream team" is spending big bucks on airtime in the country’s 5th largest media market to spread their message with a slick confidence ad that deceives viewers into thinking that proposition G will bring affordable housing, even though there is absolutely no binding language in the proposition itself.

But their ad has been "mashed up" by some pesky Internet YouTubers who support Prop F, a community response to Prop G from the F is for Fairness Campaign, a broad coalition of advocates for working families united in a grassroots effort to get guarantees, not just promises, of affordable workforce housing.

Proposition F protects the future of San Francisco’s largest African American community by guaranteeing that half of any housing built at Candlestick be affordable to working families in San Francisco. Proposition F is a Fair Deal – 50% for working families, 50% market housing. It profits the developer and benefits the community.

Haussamen's analysis on the Big Bill's Obama endorsement over at NM Politics isn't horrible. One thing it points out is Richardson has been in the press a lot these last few weeks when his endorsement caused James Carville to blow a gasket and call the Guv Judas, just when it seemed like the Guv was irrelevant.
The popular online research engine Nexis/Lexis found 62 stories (GoogleNews brought back 279) using the search terms "Bill Richardson" and "Judas".

Mediaaccuracy.org's analysis of the Democratic Primary adds to the discussion.
