The Position
The Center for Media Justice is looking for a skilled organizer or media activist with a passionate desire to advocate for the media rules and rights we all need and deserve. The Grassroots Media Policy Advocate is responsible for coordinating all aspects of CMJ’s Grassroots Media Activism Program (G-MAP), including our regional media justice hub and the national Media Action Grassroots Network (MAG-Net). Playing the role of both local organizer and national alliance builder, this position engages CMJ and MAG-Net members in media accountability and policy campaigns, develops local and national alliances, and works with our partners to strengthen the media justice sector.
Primary responsibilities include:
• Membership coordination and tracking
• Campaign strategy and action
• Public education and leadership develop
• National coordination and field-building

Who We Are
The Center for Media Justice, formerly the Youth Media Council, is a member-driven media strategy and action center dedicated to creating a collaborative movement for racial justice and youth rights. Launched as an organization in 2002, our mission is to build the power of grassroots movements and disenfranchised communities to transform public debate and media policy in the service of justice.
The Ideal Candidate
The CMJ seeks an organizer or media activist who understands the importance of structural media change to building a movement for racial and economic justice. Great advocacy and people skills and 1-2 years of experience with base-building, leadership development and campaign strategy are a must. Knowledge of the media landscape, rules, and rights are a plus. The ideal candidate will love culture and media enough to fight for it, be a team player and organizational thinker, and has a great head for strategy. People of color, members of the queer/transgender community, and women are strongly encouraged to apply. It’s a big, beautiful job for the right leader.
