Makani Themba-Nixon

The Praxis Project


Makani Themba-Nixon is executive director of The Praxis Project, a nonprofit organization helping communities use media and policy advocacy to advance social justice. A long-time organizer and nationally renowned trainer, Makani has published numerous articles and case studies on race, media and policy advocacy, including Talking the Walk: A Communications Guide for Racial Justice (2004). She is co-author of Media Advocacy and Public Health: Power for Prevention, and author of Making Policy, Making Change. Makani has been a CMJ trainer and advisory board member since CMJ’s inception.
